The Barnes and Mortlake Angling and Preservation Society (BMAPS) has been in existence for over 70 years and is still thriving today. Managed entirely by volunteers who make up the Management Committee, the Club serves as a social environment for fishing enthusiasts to develop their angling skills. With a focus on both Carp and Course fishing, BMAPS welcomes well-behaved members to enjoy the sport. One of the venues frequented by BMAPS members is Thames Young Mariners in Ham, Richmond. This sizeable lake is connected to the Thames, offering a variety of watercraft activities. Strict access regulations are in place, with specific fishing days communicated via the club's website. The lake boasts a diverse array of fish species, including Carp, Flounders, Mullet, Trout, Zander, Grass Carp, Pike, Perch, and Bream. Membership is exclusive, with non-fishing guest passes not permitted. Similarly, Shadwell's Pool in Barnes provides a serene setting for anglers to enjoy the sport. This old estate lake offers a mix of fish, including Carp, Roach, Tench, Bream, and Perch. Open from April to March, the pool is monitored by BMAPS bailiffs, and members have access to the facility with day tickets available for guests. Access and parking options are provided, ensuring a convenient experience for visitors. In 2019, BMAPS acquired the fishing rights to Potomac Lake, reviving the once-overgrown area. With a rich history dating back to the 18th century, the lake boasts a depth of up to 24 feet and is heavily stocked with Carp and Pike. Night fishing permits are available, adding to the allure of this historic venue. Members can access the lake via a park gate with a combination lock and enjoy parking options within the park's premises. Overall, BMAPS offers a range of fishing opportunities at various picturesque locations, catering to both experienced anglers and beginners. With a commitment to preserving the sport and providing a welcoming environment for all members, the club continues to be a pillar in the angling community.
