Information

Martham & District Angling Club has a long and storied history, as they have been managing the fishing rights to Martham Pits since 1984. Over the years, the fishery has seen significant changes and improvements, particularly in the shift towards Carp as the main species in the pits. The club's stocking program has been instrumental in this transition, resulting in Carp weighing over 20lb being caught in the B pit, which has become a popular spot for anglers. In addition to Carp, the A pit offers excellent opportunities for Roach and Rudd fishing, with fish weighing over 2lb being prevalent. Bream can be found in all the pits, with some larger specimens weighing up to 8lb. Perch, including a reported 4lb specimen, are well-stocked in the B pit, while there are still opportunities to catch Tench weighing up to 8lb, despite a decrease in their numbers. Membership to the club is limited due to the size of the pits, with membership starting as a small syndicate and growing to nearly 200 members. Currently, there is a waiting list for membership that has been temporarily closed due to high demand. The club offers a variety of Match leagues throughout the year, catering to different preferences with main leagues held on Sundays during the summer and winter months, as well as weekly and evening leagues. They also host charity matches to raise funds for local causes and a Christmas Fare match in December. In addition to fishing at Martham Pits, the club has access to a stretch of the River Thurne at OBY for regular club matches, exclusively open to members. Boat access is provided through the club's own boats at Rollesby Sailing Club for exploring the Trinity Broads, with members needing to contact the Boats Coordinator for access. Monthly meetings provide an opportunity for members to come together, while regular committee meetings address club matters. Overall, Martham & District Angling Club offers a rich angling experience with diverse fishing opportunities and a strong sense of community among its members.
