Allestree Park boasts the largest open space in Derby, spanning an impressive 320 acres, and nestled within this expansive park is a beautiful 7-acre lake. This lake, known as Allestree Lake, is a popular spot for anglers as it offers a diverse range of fish species including specimen carp, tench, bream, pike, and silvers. In an effort to continually enhance the lake's ecosystem, there is an ongoing collaboration between the park management and Derby City Council to implement improvements. This includes plans to introduce new habitat features and plantings, as well as a comprehensive fishery management program aimed at maintaining a healthy and sustainable fish population. One notable event that took place at Allestree Lake was the introduction of 'Moz', a 27lb specimen carp, on Saturday 20th November 2015. This special addition was made in memory of Maurice (Moz) Walker, and it is anticipated that Moz will continue to grow in size, potentially reaching over 30lbs by the 17/18 Season. Overall, Allestree Lake in Allestree Park is not only a picturesque destination for outdoor enthusiasts but also a thriving habitat for a variety of fish species, with ongoing efforts to ensure its continued ecological health and sustainability.
