Information
The Fowey Rivers Association is a group open to all Fowey Anglers, including those from fishing clubs, syndicates, and riparian owners, with the goal of protecting and preserving the river and its ecology. The association serves as a pressure group and negotiating body on behalf of its members, working to ensure the well-being of the river. The River Fowey is known for its excellent salmon and sea trout fishing, and is one of the few rivers in the southwest of England that maintains sustainable salmon stocks. The clean waters of Bodmin Moor provide an ideal breeding ground for both species, allowing them to thrive in the river. However, the presence of the water utility company S.W.W. complicates the river's ecosystem. The company uses the river as a water conduit, releasing water from reservoirs on Bodmin Moor to the treatment plant at Restormel. This manipulation of water flow impacts the migratory patterns of salmon and sea trout, as well as influencing where they congregate and how they can be fished for. Overall, the Fowey Rivers Association plays a crucial role in ensuring the conservation of the river and its wildlife, while also advocating for responsible fishing practices among its members.
