Lower River Itchen Fishery is a destination that is perfect for those looking for a challenging yet rewarding dry fly fishing experience for brown trout. The river boasts excellent ranunculus cover, which is cut in the traditional line and bar method, creating the ideal environment for trout to thrive. The fishery is divided into five beats, each offering a unique fishing experience with a variety of water conditions. From white water pools to faster riffled stretches and deep pools, anglers are sure to find plenty of opportunities for exciting sport. Four of the beats can be fished from both banks, with footbridges conveniently placed for easy access. The fifth beat is only fished from one bank, allowing the other bank to remain natural and provide a sanctuary for bird and insect life. The beats are all adjacent to each other, with a central Fishing Lodge and BBQ area for anglers to relax and socialize. Regular stocking of the trout beats ensures that anglers have the opportunity to catch high-quality brown trout, with some specimens reaching up to 5lbs. The fishery's stocking policy focuses on brown trout only, with the stocked fish complementing the wild stock that is native to the river. On average, the trout at Lower River Itchen Fishery weigh just over 2lbs, with some larger fish reaching between 3-5lbs later in the season.
