Box Brook, managed by the Bathampton Angling Association, is a traditional fly fishing venue that offers anglers the opportunity to catch Brown Trout and Grayling. This high-class spring-fed limestone river is teeming with insect life and boasts an impressive mayfly hatch, as well as a thriving population of wild trout that freely rise to the surface. Fishing at Box Brook is strictly fly fishing only, and the price for fishing both beats is £35. Anglers must have a membership with the Bathampton AA and obtain a special season permit to fish at this location. Night fishing is not permitted, and there is no disabled access available. The fishing season runs from April 1st to October 15th, and permits can be obtained from Adrian Wallace in Bath. In terms of permits, adult season permit holders can purchase guest fishing permits for £7 per guest per day. Juniors under 17 years old must fish with a senior season permit holder, and reduced price part-season permits may be available starting from August 1st. Members who participate in official bank clearance work parties are entitled to free guest permits, with a maximum of six guest permits per member per season. Beat 1, known as Shockerwick, is easily accessible from the A4 road, while Beat 2, Middlehill, is located past Shockerwick. Both beats have designated fishing boundaries that are marked by notice boards. Anglers are advised to park carefully and not obstruct gateways while fishing. Overall, Box Brook offers a serene and picturesque setting for fly fishing enthusiasts to hone their skills and enjoy the beauty of nature.
