Information
Ifield Mill Pond, located in Crawley, is a significant wetland site surrounded by expansive recreational grasslands. Despite its proximity to other grassy areas, the pond stands out as the most important wetland in the area. The pond is bordered by strips of woodland along its margins and to the southeast along Dowster Brook. The pond is home to a diverse bird community, including coots, moorhens, mallards, mute swans, great crested grebes, reed buntings, and grey wagtails, all of which breed in the area. In the winter, various species of ducks visit the pond, and sightings of kingfishers, herons, and water rails are rare but possible. Fishing is allowed at the pond every day from 7:30 am until sunset unless the Council has closed it or suspended fishing activities. Anglers must possess a valid rod license from the Environment Agency, which can be obtained online or at the post office. This ensures that fishing is conducted in a responsible and legal manner. Overall, Ifield Mill Pond offers a thriving natural habitat for birds and a peaceful spot for fishing for those who follow the regulations set in place.
