This mature gravel pit, just over four acres in size, has recently undergone a complete renovation to serve as a day ticket fishery for the LVRPA. It is ideal for new carp anglers as well as seasoned fishers looking to catch a lot of fish. In 2006, the lake was stocked with 200 Mirror Carp ranging from 2lb to 5lbs. During an event in September of the same year, three anglers managed to catch 25 fish with one of the original mirrors, a 25lb 2oz fish now named "Melvyn's Fish," topping the catch. Over time, the fish have grown, with "Melvyn's Fish" now weighing over 28lbs. Additional stockings have taken place, with 40 C3 Fishers Pond Mirror Carp introduced in early 2007, followed by 30 Ben Gratwicke scaley Mirrors between 5 to 8lbs in May 2008. These fish were raised from C1 in a Carp rearing facility. The water is rich in features such as gravel bars, plateaus, and lily pad beds, making it an interesting and challenging fishing environment. Located in Stanstead Abbots with access from Marsh Lane, the lake offers anglers plenty of opportunities to hone their skills. The fish have been regularly fed on pellets since stocking, making a good quality boilie a successful bait choice. During the event, anglers found success by fishing with a PVA bag of pellets on top of a scattering of pellets and boilies. However, anglers should be cautious when fishing near the reed beds, as they are newly planted and fenced off with chicken wire to protect them from waterfowl. Overall, this renovated gravel pit offers an exciting and rewarding fishing experience for anglers of all levels.
