Information
Harfield No. 2 is a well-established 50-acre gravel pit situated in South Harefield, surrounded by lush vegetation and conveniently located next to the Grand Union Canal. The fishing society members have easy access to the lake, with the option to park their vehicles near one of the three designated car parks and walk up to 500 meters to reach the various swims available for fishing. In August 2017, the lake faced a significant challenge when an oxygen crash occurred, resulting in a decline in the fish population. To address this issue, the fishing society launched a re-stocking program aimed at replenishing the fish numbers in the lake. The first phase of this program was completed in February 2018, during which 165 carp weighing between 4lb to 22lb were introduced to the lake. These carp were carefully selected from reputable fisheries such as VS Fisheries and Lower Berryfield Fisheries, taking into consideration their appearance and expected growth rates. As part of the ongoing efforts to enhance the biodiversity of Pit 2, further stocking took place in December 2019. This included the introduction of 1500 tench, 800 bream, 500 roach, and 500 rudd into the lake, diversifying the species present and contributing to the overall health of the ecosystem. These stocking initiatives demonstrate the fishing society's commitment to maintaining a thriving fish population in Harfield No. 2, ensuring an enjoyable and sustainable fishing experience for its members.
