Information
Derwent Water stands out among larger lakes for its relatively shallow depth, averaging just under twenty feet. This characteristic gives the lake a significant advantage in terms of fish production, boasting a higher biomass compared to other lakes in the region. The lake is home to trout, including some large specimens, making it a popular spot for fly fishing from a boat, especially in the early part of the season and during the mayfly hatch in early June. However, fishing for trout tends to decline as the season progresses. In addition to trout, Derwent Water also hosts a large population of perch and roach. The perch are abundant and of a good average size, with some impressive specimen fish present. While the roach thrive in the lake, they are not typically targeted by anglers. With such abundant food sources, many anglers now focus their efforts on the lake's pike population. Pike are plentiful in Derwent Water and can reach substantial weights, with fish over 20lb being caught regularly. Overall, Derwent Water offers a diverse range of fishing opportunities for anglers of all levels, making it a popular destination for those seeking a variety of fishing experiences.
