Information

Woolpack Fishery, located outside Huntingdon near Godmanchester in Cambridgeshire, was established in the late 1970s after sand and gravel extraction ceased and four lakes were created. The fishery is known for its top-quality carp, with several fish over 40lbs being caught, including a top weight common of 51-4. Lake 4, the original carp lake on the complex, is currently closed for fishing as it houses growing-on stock fish and original carp for quarantining, but will reopen for angling in the next few years. Lake 5/6, just over 8 acres and split by islands, offers a variety of features for exploration and some challenging spots where fish can hide. With depths ranging from a few inches to nearly 20 feet, the lake is rich in naturals, making angling difficult for the old and wise fish that reside there. Lake 7, spanning just over 9 acres, is home to around 50 fish, with depths ranging from 10 to 14 feet. The lake supports a large natural food source for carp, with stunning examples of commons and mirrors up to 39-0. Lake 8, approximately 8 acres in size, is home to around 70 carp caught up to 34-12 in 2010. With a range of features including bars, gullies, and plateaux, the lake offers consistent sport and has a mix of low 20s carp, as well as bream and tench. The fishery as a whole offers a variety of angling experiences, from challenging spots and rich natural food sources to stunning examples of carp that keep anglers coming back for more.
