Information

Bordeaux Pit is a picturesque fishing spot located just outside of Saffron Walden near Little Chesterford. Access to the pit is through a locked gate, adding to the exclusivity and tranquility of the location. The 2.5-acre water is well sheltered from the West/South Westerly winds due to its position below surrounding fields and the Railway embankment to the West. The pit is divided into three distinct sections, featuring two main bays and an island at its northern end, providing a total of 39 swims for anglers to enjoy. During the winter months, the water levels reach around 6-7ft, with slightly shallower swims around the island. Anglers can expect a diverse range of fish in Bordeaux Pit, including Carp, Crucian, F1’s, Chub, Bream, Ide, Roach, Rudd, Perch, and Tench. Carp in the pit typically range from 10-20lb, with some larger specimens up to 30lb. F1’s can reach up to 3lb, Crucian’s up to 3lb, Ide up to 2lb+, Chub up to 4lb, Bream up to 5lb, and Tench up to 8lb. Additionally, there are some Perch nearly 3lb in weight, as well as abundant Roach and Rudd. Unlike many commercial fisheries, Bordeaux Pit maintains a sensible stock level, providing a more natural and unpredictable fishing experience. While the water is not overstocked for massive catches, anglers can still enjoy a rewarding day of fishing in the summer months, particularly when the weather is not too hot and bright. Winter fishing at Bordeaux Pit can be challenging, as with any Stillwater fishery. However, those who adjust their tactics by scaling down their gear and feeding sparingly can still achieve reasonable catches. Overall, Bordeaux Pit offers anglers a peaceful and diverse fishing experience in a scenic and well-maintained environment.
